Labour Relations Strategy

Our movement towards a more collaborative and coordinated strategic labour relations approach aligns labour relations with the institutional priorities of the Academic, Research and Vice President Finance and Services Foundational Plans.


About Academic Labour Relations

The Academic Labour Relations team is responsible for promoting a productive labour relations environment involving the university, academic staff, graduate assistants, and postdoctoral associates by:

  • providing advice to human resource professionals, managers and leaders in relation to academic staff, graduate assistants and postdoctoral associates
  • provides advice on collective agreement interpretation and discipline
  • supporting collective bargaining negotiations with TUCFA, the GSA and PDAC
  • supporting the grievance process and facilitating fair and equitable grievance resolution
  • representing the university at Labour Relations Board hearings and grievance arbitrations
  • supporting complex accommodation and other human rights cases
  • providing feedback on proposed amendments to labour legislation
  • facilitating and supporting the tenure and promotion process for academic staff members

About Employee & Labour Relations

The Employee and Labour Relations team is responsible for promoting a productive labour relations environment at the university involving the university, support staff, and management and professional staff by:

  • providing advice to human resources professionals, managers and leaders on AUPE collective agreement interpretation, investigations and complex discipline
  • leading complex workplace investigations involving non-academic staff
  • encouraging fair and equitable resolution of matters through the university's two-step grievance process
  • representing the university at Labour Relations Board hearings and grievance arbitrations
  • leading collective bargaining negotiations with AUPE
  • developing programs and processes to support managers and employees
  • facilitating consultation with AUPE on contracting out initiatives
  • providing feedback on proposed amendments to labour legislation
